Depression (Mood Disorders)

Combining "mindfulness" with cognitive therapy has been shown to bolster recovery from depression and to prevent relapse. There are many therapies for depression but their weakness is that none of them have been entirely successful at preventing recurrence (relapse) of depressive episodes. Zindel Seagal, PhD and his colleagues have developed an effective eight week program that addresses this persistent problem for those suffering from depression. The approach and supportive research is described in Seagal's book, "Mindfulness-Based Cognitive therapy for Depression: A New Approach to Preventing Relapse" (Guilford Press, 2002).
